10 Reasons to Get Your ASS to Moab this March

Moab, Utah is Mountain Biking Paradise.

PERIOD!

Moab’s iconic mountain biking is a must for all mountain bikers.  It is well known for the infamous Slickrock Trail that ranks high on most travelers list to do.  But, did you know that there are over 360 trails that are impossible to describe with enough adjectives to really convey how awesome they are?  Moab has been literally transformed by Moab Trail Mix Alliance with new additions in past years like Magnificent 7, 7-Up, Getaway and other mountain bike trails in the Gemini Bridges area.  There are also amazing trails like Pipe Dream, Gold Bar Rim and newer areas like the Klondike Bluffs and Navajo Rocks to take all ages and levels of riders from beginner to advanced.

There are many other activities and ways to have fun in the desert without having to swing a leg over a mountain bike.  There are amazing National Parks, the Colorado River, high mountain backcountry skiing and more scenery than an afternoon scroll on Instagram.  It will literally blow your mind.

Here are our 10 reasons to get your ass to Moab this March (In no particular order.)

We will see you there.

#1- TransRockies Moab Rocks Stage Race – The amazing folks from Transrockies certainly know how to throw an event, they’re Canadian after all!  Moab Rocks in no exception.  This 3-day stage race includes a plethora of classic rides in Moab. Racers and riders looking for a great ribbon guided tour will enjoy the sportsmanship and camaraderie of the stage race format with daily timed downhill sections for a chance to compete for a race within the race.

#2- Milts – If you’ve never been, you probably have not been to Moab (yet!) This place is legendary, and the tot’s are awesome.  It could be that we usually stumble to Milt’s after a long ride.  About half way through the ride I’m already salivating about consuming large quantities of these juicy potato pillows.  Do yourself a favor and stand in line.

#3- Moab Recreation Center – After living the #vanlife for a couple of summers now, we have come to really appreciate a good warm shower!  The fact that this rec center also has a great gym, indoor and outdoor pool and great surrounding park is a serious bonus.  It’s also a great place to do some recon if you are thinking about building out your own van.

#4- Camping – Nothing beats sleeping under the stars, especially in the desert.  The clarity of the night sky, soul warming hues of the sunsets and sunrises are only topped by great company and beautiful red rock scenery, best shared with friends, beer, food and dogs. Don’t forget to shake out your shorts, because the fine sand gets everywhere!

#5- Spring Thaw Mountain Bike Festival – Poison Spider know’s how to throw a party with bikes!  Join the crew March 10-12th with special ladies rides, breakfast events, shuttles and rides as well as BOWLING!!!  If you’ve got $89 bucks you are in for a great weekend.

#6- Making new friends, not just cool lizards.  Moab is a Mountainbike meetup dream.  Two-wheeled adventure seekers from all over the globe make the pilgrimage to Moab.  The people you meet in Moab are fantastic and friendships forged in the desert sand and rock are hard to beat.

#7- Hammock Naps in Spectacular Scenery – Being swaddled in a hammock down by the river is amazing, especially after a long ride, when your legs are sore, your belly is full and you have a cold beer in hand.

#8 – SUP Shuttles – The mighty Colorado River has easy access points and varied class of whitewater depending on your abilities and balance.  Again, the scenery is UNREAL with the towering high walls and usually bright blue sky surrounding the milk chocolate river.

#9 -Swimming Hole’s on Mill Creek – This is an iconic hike in Moab, littered with swimming holes and waterfalls, in the DESERT.  It’s unbelievably refreshing, but can be packed, so get a local to show you some more out-of-the-way spots if you can.

#10 – Spring Outerbike!!! – Now there are 3 chances to experience Outerbike, 2 in Moab (spring and fall) and one in Crested Butte, Colorado (summer.) The event in March is a great way to see all the new gear and rub elbows with the companies that also come to ride and share their love of the sport.  The demos, shuttles and extra curricular activities are always epic.
