Gold Lake, Greagle, CA

Crankjoy’s Favorite 2016 Destinations

This summer has been filled with great adventures.  Wandering around the west in search of awesomely fun singletrack has been a very difficult job.  With our ears to the ground, we have heard about some great new trails and had to hit up some of our long-time favorites as well.  It has been a busy couple of months and with the fall fast approaching we thought we should go ahead and share these so you too can plan your next adventures. Here are the places that left the biggest grins on our faces in no particular order.

  1. Ridgway, Colorado – Rat Trail System

With stunning views of the San Juan Mountains, the RAT trails offer up multiple easy to navigate well-marked loops.

We were having too much fun here to take the time to stop for photos. Finishing the ride with a big grin, we meet this guy who was hanging out in the parking lot. His owner, Noah Bodman and Flathead Fat Tires is responsible for building and maintaining these great trails.
  3. Fernie, BC – The Whole Town!

    [/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”]

    Singletrack 6 Fernie
Lucky enough to sample most of the trails in the area while participating in the Fernie 3 and Singletrack 6 Stage Races this summer, we could not pick a favorite trail in this town. They are all stellar. Make sure to hit up Lazy Lizard, Project 9 and Hyperextension for sure.
  4. Gunnison, CO – Hartman Rocks

    [/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”]

The variety at Hartman Rocks is incredible. We’ve been going back here for over 20 years. Beautiful fast and flowy high desert country. Don’t forget to hit up the local bakeries for PedalandPasteries.com treats!
  5. Hood River, OR – Surveyors Ridge

    [/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”]

Ridiculous views of Mt. Hood along this route made this IMBA Epic pleasure cruise super fun.
  6. Hurricane/St George, UT – Quail Creek Mountain Bike Trails

Visiting our friend Jon Pettit, who just bought The Howling Dog Bike and Ski shop in Graeagle, we had to check out this trail. Swoopy fast and great flow with huge trees and killer views, this trail continues to be developed thanks to the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship. Stay tuned for an upcoming fundraiser from Ibis Bicycles to help cut out the one double track portion of this great ripper of a trail.
  8. Revelstoke, BC – Marthas Creek DH

    [/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”]

Despite bugs the size of helicopters at the top of the shuttle drop, we had to pause and take in the jaw dropping views high above Revelstoke, BC. There was so much gnarly fun on the steep techie downhill drop back into town (4971 ft/ 5.8mile descent) that we couldn't stop to take more photos! The riding was even better than this view.
