How do you choose your riding shades?
Do you choose whatever is handy, clean, the ones that match your bike, outfit or helmet? Do you rock the only ones you’ve got or those that aren’t sweaty or muddy currently?
For me the answer is – “It’s complicated.” For me it’s also personal. I want to support companies and brands that are the real deal, stand behind their products and care about their consumers. Since starting Crankjoy this past spring and setting out to provide useful and truthful reviews of products to test and stand behind, we have been lucky enough to meet some awesome industry folk. One such person is Jim Katz. Jim heads up PR for Bollé and is a passionate cyclist that loves to ride. He is personable, friendly and super knowledgeable about the product he promotes. Jim believes that Bollé sunglasses speak for themselves and he knows they are awesome. He trusts that if he gets people to try the glasses, they will see for themselves and the word will spread quickly for Bolle (I guess that is how they came up with their tagline.)
Jim sent us a couple of pair to test. The Tempest in black and the Bolt S in shiny white for the smaller faces. Both came with their Modulator photochromic lenses which adapt magically to different light conditions. When it’s super sunny the lenses distinguish great contrasts and have a grey tint. When it’s dark they have a rose tint and really lighten up quickly. The glasses are stylish, well made and are refreshingly different, in my opinion. They also have a cool mirrored finish which make for great selfies, which is important for me. The nosepiece and temple tips are infinitely adjustable and have a grippy rubber that stick when you sweat, but don’t pull a bunch of hair out from your helmet when you take them off. They fit nicely under your helmet without giving you pressure points. You can check out the different lens options for yourself on the website with a cool interactive lens simulator page that allows you to “try them on” from your computer.
